From Prejudice to Prides: Cheshire LGBTQ+ Heritage Project Launches
On 2 December, From Prejudice to Prides, Body Positive’s ambitious project celebrating Cheshire’s rich LGBTQ+ heritage, was officially launched at Congleton Town Hall in partnership with the Museums of Cheshire Network.
This exciting initiative builds on the success of the first From Prejudice to Pride project, which uncovered hidden LGBTQ+ histories from the archives, and now focuses on the contemporary transformation of Cheshire’s communities.
The project will bring together local historians, community leaders, and Pride organisations to mark the start of a journey to document Cheshire’s ‘Pathways to Prides.’ The project will explore the emergence of Pride events across the county, the stories of resilience and inclusion behind them, and their impact on the wider community.
From Prejudice to Prides will collect personal accounts, artefacts, and images while engaging the public through creative workshops, oral history interviews, and interactive experiences like an LGBTQ+ heritage trail and exhibitions on the history of drag.
By connecting the past to the present, this project aims to celebrate the progress made while preserving these stories for future generations.
