Pride in Alsager

Pride in Alsager, the newly formed group of LGBTQ+ community members and allies, will be taking part in two Pride events on Saturday 9th October.

The group will be meeting for a Flashmob Parade starting on the pavement near the Spar on Crewe Road in Alsager at 12.30pm. Supporters are invited to join the celebration parade or view and give a wave as the parade follows a route along Crewe Road to the town centre, down Ashmore’s Lane and Station Road, finishing in Milton park. There will be music, dance and plenty of rainbow colour, including the new group logo featuring a swan with trans-inclusive pride colours.

Local businesses are being invited to support the event by adding Pride decorations and colours to their window displays or buildings.

To round off the celebration Pride in Alsager will be providing an evening of Pride themed entertainment at Radway Social Club, Longview Avenue. Doors open at 6PM, live entertainment will be from 7 PM till 1 AM. The evening will be hosted by the legendary Stoke drag artist and DJ - Ruby Von Trappe. The line-up of local talent will include classic rock covers band Double Denim Company, solo vocalists Hayley Elliot and Gavin Allport plus high energy pop dance and songs from Kyle Finn and PJ Taylor with “Ginger Boy” (as seen on Britain’s Got Talent). Dany Harris will be entertaining the party with her own mix of “punky pop piano songs about aliens, robots and food.” Music between the live acts will include many Pride favourites guaranteed to keep the dance floor busy.

LGBTQ+ community support organisations will be on hand to promote their free services in a quiet area for discussion and support.

Tickets for the fundraising event are on sale from Radway Social Club, Longview Avenue and Paradox Vapes, Crewe Road. Numbers of tickets are strictly limited so please don’t delay. Adult-only tickets cost £2 for members and £5 for non members, cash only. Membership forms will be available when purchasing tickets. A raffle will take place during the evening with some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses.

Glen Mitchell, treasurer, on behalf of the Pride in Alsager group described the Pride events as “an exciting start for the group which aims to increase visibility for the LGBTQ+ community within Alsager and surrounding area, provide support to members of all ages and work to improve equality. We look forward to members of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies joining together to help make the first Alsager Pride a success.
