News & Information for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans+ people in Cheshire
Do lesbian, bisexual women and trans men need smear tests?
Cervical cancer affects anyone with a cervix and is the most common cancer in women under 35. Despite this, just 72% of eligible women in England attend smear tests, which can help to prevent around three quarters of cervical cancers from developing.
In the LGBTQ+ community the attendance figures are much lower with only 51 per cent of eligible women who have sex with women having never attended a smear test. Don’t put yourself at risk. Make an appointment with your GP or at a Sexual Health Clinic.
