May has arrived in full bloom, with fresh flowers popping up, buds unfurling on the trees and that glorious stretch of longer, lighter evenings. In celebration of the season, we’re adding a little twist to our programme with some early evening walks starting at 5:00pm and finishing by 7:00pm. More daylight, more fresh air, and still plenty of time for a well-earned cuppa and chat.
Tuesday 5th May
Congleton Park (Evening Walk)
A gentle riverside stroll through one of Cheshire’s most charming Victorian parks. Following the River Dane, this walk offers a mix of landscaped gardens, open green spaces and peaceful tree-lined paths. Early evening light adds a lovely glow to this relaxed and sociable route.
Meet at: Congleton Leisure Centre Café, Worrall Street, Congleton, CW12 1DT
Directions: The leisure centre is well signposted from Congleton town centre, with easy access to the park just a short walk away.

Sunday 10th May
Anderton Country Park
Our May stroll takes us through the green spaces surrounding Anderton, with riverside paths, wildlife-rich meadows and peaceful woodland edges. Expect spring flowers, birds along the River Weaver and plenty of scenic spots to pause and take it all in.
Meet at: Anderton Visitor Centre, Lift Lane, Anderton, Northwich, CW9 6FW
Directions: From Northwich, follow signs for Anderton. The site is well signposted and accessible via Lift Lane.

Alderley Edge (Evening Walk)
An early evening wander along one of Cheshire’s most iconic escarpments. Expect woodland trails, dramatic red sandstone outcrops and sweeping views across the Cheshire Plain as the day begins to soften into evening light. A gentle climb rewards us with some of the best vistas in the county.
Meet at: Macclesfield Road, Nether Alderley, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK10 4UB
Directions: From Alderley Edge village, follow Macclesfield Road towards Nether Alderley. The Edge is well signposted along the route.

Bollington Canal Circular Walk
This scenic circular route takes us along a peaceful stretch of canal before joining the Middlewood Way, a former railway line now transformed into a green corridor. Expect flat, accessible paths, waterside reflections and a gentle rhythm perfect for conversation.
Meet at: Adlington Road, Bollington, Macclesfield, SK10 5JT
Directions: From Bollington village, follow signs for Adlington Road. The meeting point provides easy access to both the canal and Middlewood Way.

Tegg’s Nose Country Park
A bracing but rewarding walk with panoramic views across the Cheshire Plain and into the Peak District. Wide tracks and open landscapes give this route a real sense of space, with the famous viewpoint offering a perfect pause for breath and admiration.
Meet at: Tegg’s Nose Country Park, Buxton Old Road, Macclesfield, SK11 0AP
Directions: From Macclesfield, follow Buxton Old Road towards Tegg’s Nose. The country park is clearly signposted.
