WHAT IS PrEP?

Short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, it involves taking pills containing the drugs Tenofovir and Emtricitabine to protect you from catching HIV. The treatment needs to be started before you have sex.

It can help you stay in control of your sex life and keep you healthy.

PrEP IS FREE FOR

Men who have sex with Men and Trans Women who have had condomless sex in the last six months.

If you are having condomless sex with an HIV positive partner.

Straight men and women at risk of catching HIV eg because of type of job or in location where HIV is more common.

HOW DOES PrEP WORK?

The most common form of PrEP is a tablet that contains two antiretrovirals - they work by stopping the HIV virus from reproducing.

Antiretrovirals are proven to be very safe and well tolerated by most people.
